CREATED WITH AN ART DECO INFLUENCE
THE EPIC LAUNCH
The Epic Launch Jewellery Box Collection is created with an Art Deco influence, in keeping with the era in which the Titanic was built.
Box Exterior
Elegant monotone hues are incorporated on the Titanic box lid through the use of a soft creamy Sycamore backdrop. The ship funnels are teamed with the Ebony portholes and the black veneers that flow down onto the lid front to denote the hull of the ship. The box exterior is french polished to enhance the streamlined marquetry depicting the Titanic.
Box Interior
The box interior, just like the Titanic, is divided into three main sections. The upper fixed tray (first class) features a porthole style ring run with a complementary ring ledge for optimum ring viewing. A brass plaque has been fitted to the inner lid and engraved with an abstract image of the ship while the brass escutcheon further enhances the nautical feel as an impressive streamlined ship.
Hidden Levels
The box front opens to reveal two hidden levels – the middle and lower lift out trays (second and third class). The second tray is fitted with several compartments for beads and earrings. There is additional space at the front for a watch or bracelet. The final level is lined in suede and suitable for larger items such as necklaces. Each level has a handle created from ebony with polyester white inlays. The hardware (lock, key and hinges) is created from traditional solid brass.
Matching Trinket Boxes
Abstract boat designs are used on the accompanying tug boat trinket boxes with the addition of exotic Bubinga to the marquetry to further differentiate them from the Ship. All trinket box interiors are lined in rich black lamb nappa, with the tug box bases moulded into circular portholes. Such curvaceous bases make them suitable to hold trinkets and rings.
Interestingly, the Epic Launch Jewellery Box Collection features in an article by Derek Jones on the Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design Exhibition in Cheltenham, Furniture & Cabinetmaking, November 2012.
